Footloose (2011)

Hey!

I had a lot of doubts about watching this film or not. Because usually the remakes are so bad that they end poisoning the original.
I defend a theory: if you're going to do it badly, don't do it. Because why bother mess up something that was good by itself?!
The Footloose remake came out last October and I watched it today, as I see it, this defends my theory.

I chose this poster because the original had Kevin Bacon on it, so I thought this was appropriated.
And talking about that, this image is from the only scene where I think Kenny Wormald has some vibe similar to Kevin Bacon's. I don't know what, though, but I instantly remembered Kevin.

They modernized everything, obviously, but I think some things should've stayed, for example the truck-fight/competition or whatever you want to call it. Now we have buses. Seriously?!
But isn't all bad.
I think I just had to imagined I was watching a new film but had read the book.
One scene I did like was when Ren is starting to fix the famous yellow Volkswagen and finds some vinyl disks but when you think he will play them or something, he just takes his iPod from this back pocket and jams around. I laughed at the "easy" evolution.
Another interesting scene is when he rips both of his iPod headphones with his teeth. How can someone do that? I sure wasn't capable of doing so.

Some people say this is the best remake ever made.
Yes, I was expecting something worse, but nothing compares to the original.
Other people say this is actually way better than the 1984's.
I ask: how can you say that? If the one you don't like didn't exist there wouldn't be a remake for you to love.
This annoys me.

In my opinion, Kenny Wormald was surprisingly good. Julianne Hough, sorry, but she's too Barbie for being a crazy, reckless and angry girl.
What did you think about this remake?

In conclusion: if you haven't already, watch the original and then watch the remake. They're different about the same thing.

I wrote a little post about the original, if you want to read it click here.
